Encourage your child’s inner artist to emerge with these simple-to-make bath paints. They’ll have so much fun painting, and even though everything will get covered in paint, the best part is that cleaning up is so easy!
What You Need:
- ¼ cup of shampoo, or hand soap, body wash or bubble bath
- ¼ cup of corn starch
- 1 – 2 Tbsp of water
- A few drops of food colouring
- Plastic jars (like the ones peanut butter comes in) or a muffin tray to put the paint in
- Paintbrushes
Steps:
- Combine the shampoo (or whichever product you have decided to use) with the corn starch, and mix with a paint brush. You can mix them directly in the jar or container you will be keeping the paint in.
- Add your food colouring, a few drops at a time, to get the colour you want.
- Add water as needed, to achieve your preferred consistency.
- Repeat to make as many different colours as you want to.
- It’s now time to get painting! Put your naked child in an empty bathtub with their paint(s) and a paintbrush, and let them go wild in the tub.
- Afterwards, simply wash the paint off the sides of the bath, then fill up the bath and give your child a good wash too. If you have left over paint, it will keep; just ensure you screw the lid tightly so it won’t dry out.
Top Tips
- You can use gentle shampoos and soaps that are tears-free and child-friendly.
- This is also a great way to use up shampoos or other products you don’t like.
- This paint doesn’t leave any stains on your wall or bath, but if you’re concerned about it, you can always test it on a small area first, just to be safe.
- Take the bath plug away while your little Picasso is painting, and keep a close eye on them, so they cannot start to fill the bath with water – at least not until you are ready to supervise the clean-up!
