What to pack in your hospital bag

Counting down to the big day when you finally get to meet your little one can be quite stressful. The last thing you want is to realise at the hospital that youโ€™ve left something of vital importance at home.

Hereโ€˜s a list of some of the important items to pack into your hospital bag as you prepare for your babyโ€™s arrival

For mom

  • Your birth plan andmedical aid card
  • Three sets of comfy pyjamas, preferably ones suitable for breastfeeding. Button-down pyjamas or nightdresses work best.
  • Slippers (those with open backs are easy to slip on and off) and socks
  • A dressing gown
  • Two nursing bras and breast pads
  • Your toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, etc.)
  • Underwear
  • Two packs of maternity pads
  • Lip balm
  • Comfortable change of clothes while you are in the hospital and another for going home. Donโ€™t forget a comfortable pair of shoes.
  • Phone, charger and double adaptor
  • Two facecloths
  • Healthy snacks (for when you get hungry)
  • Black pen and certified copy of both parentsโ€™ ID documents (for registration)

 

For baby

  • Two to three packs of disposable nappies
  • Baby sensitive wet wipes
  • Bum cream
  • Five newborn vests, babygros, booties, and a beanie
  • An outfit to dress your baby in when he is going home
  • Three to five receiving blankets
  • Dummy and holder
  • Cotton wool
  • Baby ear buds
  • Baby blanket
