Craft time: make a colour splash with bath paints

Encourage your childโ€™s inner artist to emerge with these simple-to-make bath paints. Theyโ€™ll have so much fun painting, and even though everything will get covered in paint, the best part is that cleaning up is so easy!

What You Need:

  • ยผ cup of shampoo, or hand soap, body wash or bubble bath
  • ยผ cup of corn starch
  • 1 โ€“ 2 Tbsp of water
  • A few drops of food colouring
  • Plastic jars (like the ones peanut butter comes in) or a muffin tray to put the paint in
  • Paintbrushes

Steps:

  1. Combine the shampoo (or whichever product you have decided to use) with the corn starch, and mix with a paint brush. You can mix them directly in the jar or container you will be keeping the paint in.
  2. Add your food colouring, a few drops at a time, to get the colour you want.
  3. Add water as needed, to achieve your preferred consistency.
  4. Repeat to make as many different colours as you want to.
  5. Itโ€™s now time to get painting! Put your naked child in an empty bathtub with their paint(s) and a paintbrush, and let them go wild in the tub.
  6. Afterwards, simply wash the paint off the sides of the bath, then fill up the bath and give your child a good wash too. If you have left over paint, it will keep; just ensure you screw the lid tightly so it wonโ€™t dry out.

Top Tips

  • You can use gentle shampoos and soaps that are tears-free and child-friendly.
  • This is also a great way to use up shampoos or other products you donโ€™t like.
  • This paint doesnโ€™t leave any stains on your wall or bath, but if youโ€™re concerned about it, you can always test it on a small area first, just to be safe.
  • Take the bath plug away while your little Picasso is painting, and keep a close eye on them, so they cannot start to fill the bath with water โ€“ at least not until you are ready to supervise the clean-up!
